Here at Red Hen Productions, we guarantee an exceptional viewing experience. Together with the Feminist Theatre of Cleveland, we work to provide our viewers high quality theatre productions. We have overcome huge obstacles, including having no permanent location and having a small budget, to produce works with a feminist agenda. Our theatre was created by and about the female population.
Red Hen Productions was started by Amanda Shaffer in December 1995. The board of trustees was soon formed when a group of women declared that a theatre that shows interest and concern with regard to the artistic visions, rights, and abilities of women was necessary. You can expect our board, cast, and crew to create a framework that encourages women to initiate change, take risks, and be empowered. We also aim to challenge typical assumptions about women by building bridges and showing that change is truly possible.
In any case, if you are curious about our name, we would be glad to inform you that the name Red Hen Productions originated from the very popular story of the Little Red Hen. The determination and hard work of the Little Red Hen to accomplish what she set out to do inspired us to do the same in theatre. Aside from challenging the typical assumptions on women, we also aim to create a theatre that nurtures both the participants and the audience.
Furthermore, we want you to know that we are interested in inclusive feminism. We are united by our common desire to encourage and support feminist idea expressions through theatre productions.
